Regardless of if you are training for a single discipline or multiple, the first thing you need to do is understand what your event entails. Training for a Sprint Triathlon is going to vary significantly from an Ironman despite the disciplines remaining the same; the same is true for completing a 300Km sportive versus a 60 minute criterium race.

After understanding the demands of your event, assessing your current level using some form of testing protocol, you can bring it all together into a structured programme to not only optimise time spent training but also the results that will occur.
